Flavors that unite us.

Food is more than nourishment.
It’s storytelling.

Our Mission:

Cocina Libre uplifts immigrant stories through food to foster belonging, dignity, and community for all.

Our Journey

Cocina Libre began with a simple but powerful belief: that food can do more than nourish—it can connect us, invite conversation, and tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.

As immigrants ourselves, we know what it means to build a life in a new place—to hold on to culture and memory while trying to find belonging. We also know that sharing a meal can open hearts.

Cocina Libre uses food as a bridge—bringing people together across backgrounds and identities. Around the table, we create space for connection, reflection, and joy. And we invite everyone—immigrants, allies, neighbors, and friends—to join us in building a more welcoming world, one meal at a time.

Our Start

In May 2024, we launched two major projects: a book and a documentary. Since then, we’ve sold +800 books—four times the lifetime average for self-published works, which typically sell fewer than 200 copies. We also reached #1 New Release status on Amazon. None of this would have been possible without the people who gathered around the table with us—thank you for being part of this movement.

You can find our book at any major book retailer online (Target, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, etc). You can also buy at The Bookies and Tattered Cover, in Denver.

Our Impact

Through Cocina Libre, real change is already happening. Two of our featured chefs have secured full-time jobs in the food industry, and many others have earned direct income by participating in multiple events.

Profit beyond expenses provides immigrant chefs with professional culinary training and support in obtaining licenses to operate their food businesses. This allows them to gain independence, build sustainable careers, and expand their impact in the community.

When you join us, you’re not just sharing a meal—you’re building relationships, expanding your perspective, and contributing to tangible opportunities for immigrant chefs. Your presence creates impact.
